HAPPY Halloween!

For many Halloween will be quite different this year. I know my neighbors have been planning their decorations and are anticipating kids for Trick or Treat. You can make trick or treat safer by making a HALLOWEEN CANDY CHUTE to send candy down to those cute Trick or Treaters. This is a fun add to your decorating and will help to maintain social distancing in your neighborhood.

Here’s a Spooky Image taken with a cell phone in x-ray mode! I’m pretty sure my phone can’t do this!

wearable arts show

Did you know that each year, there is a Wearable Arts Show in Ocean Shores? The OSWAS puts on a “one night only” extravaganza of art designed to be worn on the human body . All types of artists come to the runway to showcase their functional, and not so functional, pieces of wearable art.

Each year the show has a theme. Artists are encouraged to create their pieces in line with this theme, but they are not required to do so. All pieces are unique, one-of-a-kind, creations for the show. You can enter to wear your hand-crafted costume on stage or join the audience and see what other cosplayers are making.

Check it out at www.oswearableart.com. Due to SAR-CoV-2 global pandemic, the show was cancelled this year. Next year’s event is June 5, 2021. Mark your calendars now.

Ocean Shores Convention Center. Admission: $20-$25.

May Meeting

Thanks to all who attended our May meeting. It was our second month using Zoom. I like the idea of digital meeting rather than virtual meeting! We had seven members attending and one guest.

Everyone has been busy sewing during our stay-at-home time. Bryant showed his quilt that is ready for binding. Sue has made a variety of bags from easy to complicated and finished a cute little brown bear for some lucky child. Michelle has been painting flowers on fabric for a Cinderella dress and almost completed a Cosplay costume for her husband. The yoke on the costume needs to be molded. The group suggested heating up the foam and shaping it. Bryant jumped on the internet and found a short video for the heat treating of foam –

Laura has been working on two quilts and having fun making special face masks for herself with ideas for more.

Patricia has been making up bowl cozies with her leftover Marvel fabrics and is stepping up to the challenge of designing a see-through face mask to help people who communicate by lip reading. She wants to learn how to make shoes next. There was good interest on shoes from the group. One suggestion was to take doll shoes and enlarge the patterns to help with the learning process of making full-size shoes.

Melanie showed us a red velvet Cosplay Cape that she created for a cosplayer. It turned out great and she was creative with her finishing techniques. Cathy showed 18″ doll outfits she’s been making for charity and mentioned finding doll clothes patterns for cosplay outfits. Pixie Faire has a selection available at https://www.pixiefaire.com/. Search Cosplay or Steam to find fun patterns. A fun way to do smaller cosplay projects!

The Chapter tee shirts were popular and June will work with Sue to deliver them to everyone who has ordered. Thanks to all who ordered!

Our next meeting is June 20th at 10.00am. Until then, submit your photos to Laura for the Face Mask Challenge. If you like poetry, send Laura your sewing Haiku or other type of sewing poem for the next newsletter. Next month’s program is Sourcing: Products, Tools and more. Send June your favorite source, product or tool ahead of time to be compiled in a list that can be shared with the group. We will add to the list at the meeting.

Stay well and see you next month!
